The Design Process

All of our furniture is handcrafted and hand finished using domestic and exotic hardwoods. Each piece is custom made to the customer’s specifications. Because our furniture is hand made and each wood species has it’s own unique characteristics, there may be slight imperfections. Solid Wood expands and contracts with seasonal changes, it expands in the summer and shrinks in the winter due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This is a normal process and WoodWorks takes this into account when designing and building your piece.

Typically a customer is presented with sketches that serve as a starting point to begin their individual project. Once the customer approves the sketches, WoodWorks requires a 50% deposit to purchase the materials and begin construction of the piece. The balance is due upon delivery of the piece. All of the wood required to complete the piece is hand selected. This process requires attention to every detail, matching wood grain and color. The construction process is timely, each piece is hand-milled and some components of a piece can require anywhere from six to ten milling steps each. Most projects are completed in twelve to sixteen weeks, these times can vary depending on the complexity of the project and current shop projects at the time of your order.
