The Mahogany & Maple Cabinet was commissioned for a client who practices meditation and yoga and wanted a small cabinet that when he was seated would be at eye level. The inside of the cabinet is used for housing all of his books and pamphlets.
The table top was made from an 8/4 Walnut slab which rests on a 1-1/2” thick piece of frosted plexiglass. A long rectangular mortise was cut in the underside of the top to house the base, which adds support to the top. During installation, the top was attached to the wall using a modified French cleat.
Curly Maple is not actually a species, but rather a description of the figure in the grain. The dimensional feet were designed in Adobe Photoshop, a template was then made to cut the eight pieces to complete the four feet. This piece was finished using a sprayed two-tone dye, which adds the beautiful burnt orange color to the maple.
