When the President of Shure announced his retirement, Shure associates wanted to give him a very special gift. So a Shure microphone from 1939 was restored to like-new condition and a custom stand was fabricated. But it needed a special presentation box. Bill First was highly recommended by a local supplier of furniture-grade hardwood. After several meetings with Bill, he came back with beautiful designs using exquisite, but rarely-seen, hardwoods. The finished product far exceeded our expectations, and Shure’s President was overjoyed with his retirement gift. Bill First is a supremely talented artist who paints in hardwood.

The display cabinets Bill First’s WoodWorks designed and built to house scale models of our equipment were first rate. They were delivered according to schedule, reasonably priced, and have been the subject of much positive comment by visitors to our corporate offices, where they are conspicuously on display. Bill was our consultant on materials and design, and we have had every reason to be glad that this was the case. The models were built at different times by different model makers, so treatments varied. Bill designed multiple cabinets to house the collection as individual pieces (some as long as nine feet); his design imparted a uniform look that provided just the right touch.

A coupon for a custom built cherry wood dining room table was under the tree one Christmas, a gift from my husband. Bill visited, measured our dining room, and listened to what we thought would work for us. We wanted a table with leaves that would expand to accommodate 12 diners for family dinners, but could shrink to a 42″ square when we weren’t entertaining. Bill created a beautiful piece of furniture for us that will be an heirloom for our kids and grandkids.
